Marta FC win All-Karachi Women Football final

KARACHI: Marta Women FC were crowned champions when they defeated Karachi Women FC 1-0 in the final of the All Karachi Women Football tournament here at the Aga Khan Gymkhana Ground on Friday.

Madeeha Manzoor prodded home the winner in the 23rd minute. It was a tough game with both sides playing aggressively. Marta Women FC, featuring a few good players, did well to defend the thin lead till full time.

The winners were handed over a glittering trophy, gold medals and certificates, while Karachi Women FC were handed over the runners-up trophy, silver medals and certificates.

Ambreen Hameed of Marta Women FC was declared the best player of the tournament, while her teammate Tahmina Saeed received the best goalkeeper award and Madeeha Manzoor was adjudged the player of the match.

Pir Ajmal Farooqui, Chief Executive of SAITA Pakistan, a construction company, was the chief guest on the occasion. He appreciated the way both the teams played in the final.

He said that women football was improving, but concerted efforts were still needed. He said that he would try his best to serve the game.

Organising secretary Raees Khan thanked the participating teams for featuring in the event despite fragile security situation in the city.

He said that he would like to hold it on regular basis every year.

In the three-day event, which was held under the auspices of Marta Women FC, six leading teams from the port city took part.
