The 3rd DOSTI Playing For Peace U16 Futsal tournament, organised by Karachi United Football Foundation (KUFF) and British Council, concluded last night 6 May 2012 at New Karachi United Football Ground in Sector 11-A, North Karachi.
KUFF North Nazimabad centre won the 8 team one-day event final by beating Manghopir Red 8-2. New Karachi United came 3rd by beating Manghopir Blue 5-4 on penalties. Manghophir Red’s Qambar Sajid was top-scorer with 7 goals, Mehmood Ahmed of KUFF North Nazimabad was Best Player, while team mate Yaseen Ahmed was Best Goalkeeper of tournament.
Organising secretary Riaz Ahmed told that 4 teams from Manghopir, 2 teams from KUFF North Karachi, and a team each from hosts New Karachi United and KUFF North Nazimabad centre participated in event. KUFF North Nazimabad had beat New Karachi United in semi-finals 4-2 while Manghopir Red beat Manghopir Blue 3-1 in other semi-final.
The 4th event of DOSTI Playing For Peace U16 Futsal will be played at KUFF Malir Centre (Jam Stadium, Malir) on 12 May.
The chief guest for the event final was ex-international footballer Ghulam Sarwar Sasa who praised KUFF for organising such important sporting events throughout Karachi during such troubling times and hoped that sports will help bring people closer together and bring new football talent out in the open.
He also praised that many of the teams got brand new kits to play in the tournament, praised coaches Lala Aurangzeb etc for coaching and encouraging such kids, and hoped that such good work will continue for football in Karachi.
