Pakistan bow out of SAFF Women’s Futsal after Bangladesh loss

Bangkok, Thailand: The Pakistan women’s futsal team international debut campaign came to an end for the 2026 SAFF Futsal Championship – Women’s event. The Nonthaburi Stadium witnessed expected winners Bangladesh prevail a staggering 9-1 over Pakistan in a lop sided affair.

The match began with Bangladesh dominating the opening minutes and racing to a 6-0 lead at half time. Pakistan were only able to respond through Anmol Hira in the 2nd period to make it 7-1.

But Sabina Khatun (4), Nilufa Yesmin Nila, Nouson Jahan (2) and Krishna Rani Sarkar (2) ensured that Bangladesh won 9-1 and maintained top spot in women’s event. Several Bangladesh women footballers were part of their futsal team too.

The match saw almost all members of the Pakistan squad be given minutes in rotation. This was the Shaheens third successive loss following defeats to India 5-3 and Nepal 5-1.

The result leaves Pakistan on 7 points from 6 games and are likely to finish either 4th or 5th in the 7-team event. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka beat Maldives 7-6 in a crazy game while Bhutan shocked India 2-1 in the other women’s fixtures.

Pakistan women futsal team, coached by Iranian futsal great Fatemeh Sharif Noghabi, debuted with a 1-1 draw with Bhutan followed by a first-ever 3-2 win over Sri Lanka and 3-1 win over Maldives before losing their final three games against much stronger opponents.

Fatigue and limited squad depth meant an over reliance on the likes of captain Kayanat Bokhari, Azwa Chaudhry, Alia Sadiq and Anmol Hira. Yet there were some bright spots, notably teenager Aiman Ali impressing off the bench.

Pakistan men’s team faces India on 26 January, 6:00pm PKT, in the last game of the men’s event with a win for Pakistan guaranteeing silver medal.
