KARACHI: PMC Athletic Faisalabad edged past Afghan FC Chaman 1-0 in their 8th Pakistan Premier Football League match at the Punjab Medical College (PMC) football ground in Faisalabad yesterday, 16 November 2011. Mohammad Usman Anwar scored after 22 minutes for the hosts, which proved to be the winner, as both side failed to trouble the scorers again in the remaining playtime.
The result proved to be a shock for 2nd place Afghan FC as their quest to chase runaway leaders Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) took another mortal blow at the hands of relegation threatened PMC Athletico, who look to utilise their strong home-field advantage in remaining games to survive for next year’s Premier League campaign. The win helped them rise above fellow strugglers Pakistan Air Force (PAF) to 20 points from 22 games to 14th place.
The match, originally to be played at the University of Agriculture football ground, had to switched to PMC ground at last minute because the original venue’s sudden unavailability as it became a landing field for the helicopter of Chief Minister of Punjab who was on a surprise visit to Faisalabad that same day.
