FC Rovers out of Engro Vopak Cup - FootballPakistan.com (FPDC)

The All-Karachi Engro Vopak Invitational Football Cup, hosted by FC Rovers (Malir) at Baloch Mujahid Stadium in Ibrahim Hyderi, saw Irfan Memorial (Landhi) and Aga Khan Gymkhana (Garden West) go through to the last 8 stage of the tournament at the expense of North Borders FC (Central) and hosts FC Rovers respectively.

Irfan Memorial beat North Borders 2-1 while Aga Khan Gymkhana overcame FC Rovers 4-2 in penalty shoot-out after 1-1 draw at end of normal time.

Irfan Memorial took a 2-0 lead before half time thanks to quick goals from striker Abdullah (19′,22′). In second half, North Borders managed to grab a goal through Tahir Shah (47′) but it was not enough for them to overcome Irfan Memorial in the end. The match was attended by Syed Usman Shah (senior Vice President, Karachi DFA East) and Lala Hameed Ullah Khan (member Karachi DFA Central).

In the second game, FC Rovers failed to overwhelm Aga Khan Gymkhana in normal time as Sikandar Butt’s 7th minute powerful goal was cancelled out by AKG’s Arif Hussain from the penalty spot in 23rd minute. In 2nd half, FC Rovers’ Raad-us-Salam missed a golden opportunity to give his side the lead when he failed to find the open goal in 48th minute. In the end, the game finished 1-1 forcing a penalty shoot-out. Aga Khan Gymkhana kept their cool as Arif Hussain, captain Sohail Pervaiz, Sirajuddin, and Ahmed Dad converted their penalties while only Usama Noor and Farrukh Riaz could convert their tries for FC Rovers as AKG went through to last 8 4-2 in the shoot out.
