Kalri Star (Lyari) came from 0-1 down at half time to record a stunning 3-1 win against Aga Khan Gymkhana at AKG Ground Garden West to claim Group ‘B’ top spot in 8th Karachi Football League 2010-11 fixture held on 23 Feb 2011. The defeat meant Aga Khan Gymkhana failed to get into top four spot of Group ‘B’, and hence bowed out of the competition in 5th place with 14 points from 9 games.
The venue hosts took a lead just before half time when Sir Syed Ahmed scored for Aga Khan Gymkhana in 43rd minute. In 2nd half, Aga Khan Gymkhana tried to consolidate their lead but Kalri Star goalkeeper Sohail Ahmed pulled off a series of stunning saves as he frustrated the hosts. This in turn inspired Kalri Star’s fight back as Muhammad Habib equalised in 66th minute from a Shaheen Baloch pass. Then in 78th minute, Shaheen Baloch made it 2-1 for Kalri Star before Muhammad Habib scored his second of the game in 85th minute to finish the game 3-1 for their side at the end.
Sohail Ahmed’s outstanding performance in goal made KFL organising secretary Riaz Ahmed declare him as man of the match. Muhammad Habib’s 2 goals made him top the goal scoring charts with 12 goals in current campaign. Referees were Babar Khan with assistants Ch. Sarfraz and Farrukh Riaz while match commissioner was Abdul Karim (member Central Zone).
The result finished all alloted Group ‘B’ games with Kalri Star (1st, 20 points), Mauripur Baloch (2nd, 19 points), Al-Shabaz Korangi (3rd, 18 points) and Shazad Mohammadan (4th, 17 points) qualifying for next round as top four spots from Group ‘B’. Aga Khan Gymkhana (5th, 14 points), Sindh Balochistan (6th, 12 points), National Afridi (7th, 11 points), Salaar Welfare Centre (8th, 8 points), Gulshan-e-Ittehad (9th, 5 points) and Korangi Gymkhana (10th, 1 point) bowed out of the competition.
On 25th Feb 2011 at 8 PM, the vital Group ‘A’ clash between KFL organisers Karachi United FC and hosts Baloch Mujahid FC will be held at Baloch Mujahid Stadium in Ibrahim Hyderi, Karachi.
