Karachi City win National Women’s Championship

Islamabad: Karachi City Football Club clinched the National Women’s Football Club Championship 2024 title by humbling Legacy FC 4-0 in the final match played at Jinnah Stadium on Saturday night, 10 August.

The grand finale took place between the two top teams, with Karachi City FC showcasing total dominance in possession and chances throughout the game. Legacy were forced to chase the game and defend against continuous attacks from their opponents.

In the first half, Karachi City FC took a deserving 2-0 lead. Rameen Fareed scored the first goal for Karachi City FC in the 14th minute with a strike that found the top right corner. This followed by Sanah Mehdi’s goal in the 28th minute when she pounced on the loose ball from a corner and rifled it in.

The team’s momentum continued in the second half, with Zahmena Malik scoring the third goal in the 52nd minute thanks to a nice assist by Nadia Khan. Zulfia Nazir sealed the victory with the fourth goal in the 75th minute when her lob could not be dealt with by Legacy goalkeeper Mafia Parveen. 

The final 20 minutes of the game saw torrential downpour that made certain passages of play difficult but referees carried on the game. The final whistle saw Karachi City players ecstatically celebrate being national champions in the downpour.

The prize ceremony had to be held indoors due to inclement weather. The winning team received a cash prize of Rs 1 million, while the runner-up earned Rs 500,000. The third-place team, Karachi United, took home Rs 300,000, and the Fair Play award went to Hazara Quetta, who were awarded Rs 200,000.

Nadia Khan from Karachi City was honoured as the best player of the tournament, Nisha Ashraf from Karachi City was named the best goalkeeper, and Eman Mustafa of Legacy was recognized as the top scorer with 8 goals in 2nd round.

Karachi United had earlier beaten Hazara Quetta 3-2 to win 3rd place in the National Women’s Championship with Marsha Malik scoring a hat trick for KUFC.
