QUETTA: Loralai and Quetta defeated their rivals in the third and fourth quarterfinals respectively to join with Chamman and Turbat to play the semi-finals of the PPL Balochistan Football Cup-2016. On Wednesday, both quarterfinals turned out to be one sided affairs at the Ayub Stadium. Loralai beat Khuzdar 3-0 and Quetta outclassed Jaffarabad 8-2. Loralai and Chamman will play the first semi-final while Quetta will clash with Turbat in the second semi-final.
In the third quarterfinal, Khuzar exerted pressure on their opponents soon after the match started. Their Midfielders launched two back to back attacks in a span of five minutes but failed to capitalize the opportunity that came in their way during the second attack in the 7th minute. Jalil Ahmed’s wild kick passed over the goal post. Loralai bounced back ferociously through their Midfielders Asmatullah and Salim Khan. Salim passed Mirullah near the penalty area in the 9th minute who dodged the defender and his kick beat goal keeper as well.
After conceding the first goal, Khuzdar players lost their confidence and adopted a defensive strategy while Loralai kept the possession of the ball and continued to worry their opponents making frequent inroads. In the 19th minute, Midfielder Azizullah got the ball from outside the penalty area in the centre, dribbled beautifully to dodge the defenders and the goalkeeper to double the lead of his team. In the 71st minutes Azizullah struck again with a beautiful header to score the third goal, his second, for his team. Azizullah was declared Man of the Match.
After trailing 3-0 Khuzdar awoke from slumber and launched an attack through Sanaullah and Jalil Ahmed in the 77th minute but Loralai goalkeeper leapt to stop the kick from Sanaullah to save a certain goal.
Quetta faced no resistance from Jaffarabad in the last quarterfinal. Behram Khan’s hat-trick led Quetta to a comfortable win. Behram scored goals in the 18th, 42nd and 47th minutes respectively. Rajab Ali scored goal in the 35th minute and team Captain Nazir Ahmed scored his goals in the 45th and 53rd minutes. Istaqlal also scored two goals in the 59th and 78th minutes. After scoring eight goals Quetta team looked relaxed and Jaffarabad team Captain Abid Ali took advantage of their complacency scored two goal for his team in the 81st and 86th minutes respectively.
Semifinals (Thursday 11the August): Loralai vs Chamman, Quetta vs Turbat.
