Karachi: National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) defeated Karachi United (KU) 2-1 in a thrilling final of the All Pakistan NBP Dr. Muhammad Ali Shah Football Tournament at the Burma Mohammedan Ground at Korangi on 5 June 2016.
In a Sensational Final, KU started brightly and opening the scoring early after excellent build up play saw midfielder Ali Raza send through an incisive through ball which was clinically finished by Noman Dodo inside 4 minutes.
KU dominated the first half and had good opportunities to extend their lead, but their strikers were unable to beat the NBP goalkeeper, Muhammad Umar. After the break, NBP came out firing and scored within minutes of the restart as after a corner, the KU defenders were slow to clear their lines and were punished by an emphatic volley by NBP’s young full-back, Israr.
NBP enjoyed a dominant spell thereafter and took full advantage by taking the lead subsequently when a defensive mix-up saw NBP score the winner with a deflected shot.
Towards the end of the match, KU midfielder, Adnan, was sent off for a misplaced tackle. Although KU created some good opportunities with 10 men, they were unable to find an equalizer till the final whistle and NBP were ultimately crowned champions of the All Pakistan NBP Dr. Muhammad Ali Shah Football Tournament.
