A team from Bannu Division beat hosts Chitral Dvision 2-1 in final of the 1st Inter-Regional Football Tournament. Chitral, led by former Pakistan international and K-Electric striker Muhammad Rasool, could not make home advantage count as Bannu overpowered them in a closely fought final at the Govt High School Ground in Chitral city on 4 September 2014.
This was the first time Chitral’s Directorate of Sports and District Football Association organised such a football tournament in the city and the final was attended by chief guest Abdul Wali Khan (Qaumi Watan Party district head). Bannu earned a prize money of Rs 15,000 while Chitral earned Rs 10,000 as runners up. Bannu player Badshah was named Player of the Tournament.
The four-day tournament featured 8 teams from across the region began on 1 September with Chitral edging Peshawar on penalties after the game ended 1-1. People of Chitral have expressed that more tournaments should be played regularly to promote competitive football in their division.
