KARACHI: Former champions Wapda climbed to third place in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) after defeating KPT 3-1 at the KPT Stadium on Wednesday.
Hasnain Abbas scored the opener in the 28th minute of the match as Wapda led 1-0 during the interval. Wapda continued to dominate in the second-half too, as their striker Arif Mehmood doubled the lead in the 69th minute.
KPT replied with Mohammad Khan’s goal in the 77th minute, but Wapda sealed victory with Mohammad Ahmed’s strike in the 82nd.
The former champions registered their sixth win of the season to replace PIA in third position with 25 points, whereas now KPT have 21 points to their credit.
“We’ve played well so far,” Wapda coach Tanveer Ahmed told The Express Tribune. “We’ve lost only one match this season and that too against KRL. Our next match will be against PIA and that will be a tough one.”
Meanwhile, PIA slipped to fourth position after playing a goalless match against Pak-Afghan Clearing Agency. PIA, who played their fourth draw of the season, have 25 points after playing 17 matches.
In another match of the day, NBP contained Muslim FC in a 1-1 draw at the KMC Stadium. Muslim FC took the lead with Hayatullah’s goal in the fifth minute, but NBP’s Muhammad Asif equalised in the 17th. Muslim FC remain in second place with 30 points, while NBP, who are in the ninth spot, have 18 points.
Afghan FC and PAF also played a goalless match at the KPT stadium.
