KARACHI: International striker Mohammad Mujahid’s double guided Pakistan Air Force (PAF) to a 4-1 triumph over Faisalabad’s Lyallpur FC in the Pakistan Premier Football League at the Railways Stadium in Lahore on Monday.

Mujahid, who struck once in each half, did a fine job in his team’s third win of the season. Mujahid, who was also part of the Pakistan team that featured in the SAFF Cup in Kathmandu recently, was joined on the score-sheet by midfielder Arif Nawaz and experienced Irfan Ali.

For Lyallpur FC Usman Manzoor hit the equaliser in the first half. At half time, PAF had 2-1 edge in the game, which was played under light drizzle. PAF coach Shehzad Anwar said that it was a good day for his side. “We played extremely well,” he told ‘The News’. “The team was a bit down against WAPDA but today it looked a different one,” the coach said.

This was the last game of PAF in the first round and they will now play in their second phase after Eid-ul-Adha.

“We have got three to four weeks time before our next round. The players will now go to their homes and we will hold a camp to start afresh. After Eid-ul-Adha our striker Mansoor Khan, who is engaged with the Pakistan Under-19 team, will join the team, which will help us a lot,” said Shehzad.

The victory took PAF to 11 points from six matches.

Lyallpur FC coach Mohammad Habib said his team missed chances. “We got four chances and converted just one, while our rivals converted all their four chances,” Habib said.

Lyallpur FC, playing their first season, have only one point from five meetings.

Today’s fixture: KESC v Navy (KPT Stadium, Karachi).
