Karachi: The Burma Mohammaden have won KMC Futsal championship by defeating Lyari Welfare Centre 1-0 in the final held here at Kashmir Road Sports Complex on Friday.
Both the teams played well in their bid to win the Rs50, 000 cash award and the trophy, but Lyari Welfare wasted some good opportunities. Muhammad Raees of Burma Mohammaden was in a good position when he got a clear pass in front of the goal post in the second half which he netted easily. It was the only goal of the match.
In the third position match, Sarhad Sports edged out defeated Aga Khan Gymkhana 3-2, as Shahzad scored two goals for the winners.
Later KMC administrator Hashim Raza Zaidi, being the chief guest of the prize distribution ceremony, promised that KMC would continue to organise such events of a popular sport. He recalled that when he was getting education in England his residence was near to the world famous football club of Manchester United, so he himself is a fan of this game and knows the importance of this beautiful game which is gaining popularity in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, former national football coach Tariq Lutfi applauded KMC’s role in resuming sporting activities in the city which would create healthy opportunities for the youth living in frustrating atmosphere for past several years. “Futsal is very much popular among the youth which can be gauged by the number of participating teams (32 teams) in this tournament,” he said.
The KMC administrator gave the trophy to the winning team’s captain Muhammad Raees and Rs50,000 as cash award, while the runners-up trophy was given to Lyair Welfare Centre’s captain Shahzaib along with the cash award of Rs25, 000. Umar Bux of Burma Muhammaden and KMC Green’s Zubair Khan were declared players of the tournament and each received a cash award of Rs5,000.
