KARACHI: KMC chief officer Matanat Ali Khan has said that futsal was gaining popularity among youngsters across the country, so KMC decided to organise an event for the youth of Karachi.
Khan said this while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of KMC Day and Night Futsal Tournament organised at Kashmir Road Sports Complex futsal arena the other day.
He hoped that futsal would flourish in the country. He said it was an honour for KMC to organise first futsal competition at the government level.
He said that R50,000 rupees would be awarded to the winners, Rs25,000 to the runners up, Rs10,000 to player of the tournament and Rs5,000 each to the top scorer of the tournament and the man of the final.
Colour kits have been provided to the players of all 32 teams.
Khan vowed that KMC would continue its efforts for the promotion of sports in the city and organise more events for the youth of the city.
In the inauguration match, KMC defeated Media Green, comprising print and electronic media journalists, 3-0.
Zubair Ahmed netted twice and Rizwan Ghani scored one goal for the winners.
Another encounter between KMC and Media Yellow ended in a 2-2 draw. Adnan scored twice for KMC, while Muhammad Asghar netted two goals for Media Yellow.
The tournament formally started from Sunday and five matches were played. Golden star defeated Muslim Star by 3-2 after a nail biting encounter. Muhammad Nood scored two goals for winners.
FC Malir crushed Islah Baloch 2-1. Muhammad Bin Younus scored two goals for the victors.
Baghdad Sports outsmarted Sultanabad Union 2-0.
In the fourth match, Sarhad Sports Malir defeated Frontier City 4-3 after an interesting encounter.
Striker Shahzad scored all the four goals. Rasheed scored two goals for the losing side.
In the last match of the day, Karachi City Club defeated Gulshan Soccer Academy 6-5. Muhammad Amir scored two goals for the winners.
