FC Rovers (Malir Cantt) opened their account of the 9th UBL Omni Karachi United Football League – Super League phase with a smashing 6-0 win over Irfan Memorial (Landhi) today, 28 Feb 2012, at Korangi Baloch Stadium in Sharafi (Karachi).
A superb hat-trick from young striker Areeb Zaidi, a brace from star winger Irfan Junejo, and a goal from Hasnat Khan saw Rovers completely destroy their rivals from start to finish to gain 3 valuable points.
Irfan Junejo made it 1-0 for Rovers after 14 minutes from a Ammar Shah cross, before Hasnat Khan made it 2-0 from a Abdur Rasheed free-kick in 25th minute. Areeb Zaidi then scored from a Irfan Junejo cross to make 3-0 before half-time for Rovers in 41st minute.
FC Rovers maintained their grip in 2nd half as Irfan Junejo once again provided two valuable crosses for Areeb Zaidi to score his second in 55th minute and third in 77th minute as the score became 5-0. Irfan then capped off a superb performance by making it 6-0 in 87th minute with his second of the game. Referees were Javed Bangash, Qari Tahir, M Kamran, and match commissioner H.M.Hanif.
DFA Central vice-president and former SAF Games football gold winner Saleem Patni as well as DFRA Central secretary Muhammad Shamim were guest for the game and met both teams at half time through KUFL organising secretary Riaz Ahmed. Also present were DFA East members H.M.Hanif, M Jamil, DFA Malir president Fateh Muhammad Baloch, et al.
