Two more matches of the 8th Pakistan Premier League were held today (Thursday, 22 Sept 2011) in Karachi.
Karachi Port Trust (KPT) made short work of struggling PEL with a comprehensive 4-0 win at KPT Stadium in Kharadar, Karachi. KPT captain Akhter Mamol gave his side the lead after 14 minutes before a well-taken hat-trick by Zahid Ahmed (40′, 45′, 80′) put the tie out of PEL’s reach in the end.
Pakistan Police stunned PPL title challengers PIA 3-2 at Peoples Stadium, Mauripur Road in Lyari Town. Home side PIA took the lead through striker Saddam Hussain after 10 minutes, only for Zarif to equalise for Quetta-based Police team in 33rd minute. PIA scored again through star winger Shakir Lashari (43′) to go 2-1 up just minutes before the break, only for Police to equalise at the stroke of half time through Hazrat Ali as the game was delicately poised 2-2 at half time. Police’s Asad Ullah then scored in 63rd minute to give his side a 3-2 lead which they managed to hold on to record a stunning turn around against title challengers PIA.
The loss severely dents PIA’s chances of reducing the gap with table toppers KRL while Police’s win helps give them a boost to survive relegation.
