KARACHI: Pakistan’s young footballers will assemble in Lahore on Saturday (today) to start their preparatory campaign for the 2012 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-19 Championship qualifiers to be held in Iran from October 31 to November 10.
“We have invited fifty probables for the camp which will start tomorrow,” head coach Shehzad Anwar told ‘The News’ from Lahore on Friday.
“Within three days we plan to squeeze the probables’ list to 30 and then in the next week effort would be made to drop a few more players and reduce the strength to 25,” said Shehzad, also a former Pakistan senior team’s assistant coach.
Pakistan have been placed in Group C with Uzbekistan, Iran, India, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan. The coach believes that the best available players have been picked and a fighting side could be formed for the event. He said that two Britain-based players were also interested to represent Pakistan Under-19 team in the coming event.
He added that a couple of players, who featured in the AFC U16 Championship, may also be inserted into the camp.
