PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Football Association named a 20 member football squad for the forthcoming National Inter-Provincial Football Championship commencing from February 20, 2011 at Nankana Sharif, Faisalabad.
The announcement in this connection was made by the Secretary of the K-P Football Association Noor Ahmad Shah on Sunday. He said a total of 82 players turned up for the trials despite bad weather and among them 20 players were short-listed for the final squad.
He also thanked the selection committee, headed by former international football player Basit Kamal (Peshawar), Nasrullah Khan (Lakki Marwat), Saleem Khan (Dera Ismail Khan), and Ghafoor Khan (District Dir) for selecting the team on merit.
The players, he said, enthusiastically took part in the trials. “The team”, he said, “will leave for Faisalabad on February 19”. Two teams from Punjab and a team each from Sindh, Balochistan, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kasmhir and K-P are taking part.
He disclosed that the players who took part in the Pakistan Premier League (PPL) earlier was not allowed to participate in the trials in order to give opportunity to the new and young faces.
