KFL 2010-11: Kalri Star solidify place for next round

An interesting day saw 4 results in 8th Karachi Football League 2010-11 on Sunday 6th Feb 2011. The Group ‘B’ fixtures at Aga Khan Gymkhana Ground Garden West saw Kalri Star (Lyari) beat Salaar Welfare Centre (Malir) 8-1 while Aga Khan Gymkhana were beat Gulshan-e-Ittehad (Korangi) 5-0. At Baloch Mujahid Stadium in Ibrahim Hyderi, Mauripur Baloch were held 1-1 by Sindh Balochistan in Group ‘B’, while Young Ansari narrowly beat Burma Mohammadan 1-0 in Group ‘A’.

Kalri Star’s Muhammad Habib was in flying form as he scored 5 past hapless Salaar WC to inspire his team into the next round by cementing a top-4 finish in Group ‘B’. However, Salaar WC took a 6th minute lead through Sheraz Baloch, but Kalri Star hit back with full venom as Javed Ibrahim equalised with a free-kick in 13th minute. After that, it was one way traffic for Kalri Star as Muhammad Asif made it 2-1 before the break in 36th minute. Muhammad Habib then took over as he slammed in 5 goals (51′, 56′, 63′, 76′, 83′) in 2nd half while Mubashir Baloch also scored in 52nd minute as Kalri Star prevailed 8-1 at final whistle.

The result left Kalri Star firmly in top spot with 17 points from 8 games while Salaar WC remained 8th with 8 points from as 8 games. Muhammad Habib is now tied with Abdul Hameed (Salaar WC) as join top scorers in current KFL with 10 goals each.

Later, Aga Khan Gymkhana blanked Gulshan-e-Ittehad 5-0 at their home turf. AKG captain Sohail Pervez gave his side the lead after 17 minutes, which was consolidated in rest of match with Sirajuddin (21′), M. Javed (2 – 52′, 67′) and M. Hussain (82′) helped the hosts win 5-0. The game was attended by Chairman of Salaar Welfare Centre, Shahid Taj, who met the teams during half-time break. Aga Khan Gymkhana now lie 3rd with 14 points in 8 games while Gulshan-e-Ittehad are 9th with just 5 points from their completed 9 games in Group ‘B’. Sirajuddin’s goal was the 300th of the overall current KFL campaign.

10 man Mauripur Baloch had to make do with a 1-1 draw with Sindh Balochistan in their All-Zone West clash. Naeem Ahmed was sent off for a red card during the game. Lal Muhammad Sr. gave Sindh Balochistan the lead after 15 minutes but Abdul Rasheed equalised for Mauripur Baloch in 22nd minute. No further goals took place as the game finished all-square at the end. Mauripur Baloch now lie 5th with 13 points from 8 games while Sindh Balochistan are 6th with 12 points from their finished quota of 9 games as they bow out of the competition.

Hameed Afridi’s 78th minute goal was enough for Young Ansari (Zone West) as they beat Burma Mohammadan (Korangi) 1-0 in a tense affair to keep their hopes for next round in tact. Young Ansari are 2nd with 16 points from 8 games while Burma Mohammadan lie 6th with 12 points from 8 games in Group ‘A’.

Referees for these games were Ibrar Hussain, Iqrar Hussain, Dad Rehman, Abdul Karim, Babar Khan, Farrukh Riaz while match commissioners were Saleem Arif and Abdul Karim (member Central Zone).
