Karachi football round-up

Hosted by Sahibdad Muhammadan FC (Malir), the All-Karachi Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Football Tournament will begin on Sunday (20 Feb 2011) at Mehfooz Stadium (Malir) with opening game between Sindh Government Press and KPT at 4 PM. President of PPP (District Malir), Raja Abdul Razzaq will be chief guest for opening ceremony. According to tournament organising secretary, Akbar Baloch, a total of 32 Karachi teams will compete in a Knock-Out format. Tournament patrons are Mukhi Adamil (former Chairman Sports Committee, Bin Qasim Town) and Mushtaq Manto (President, Minority Wing District Malir).

Mushtaq Ahmed Rajpoot (Usmanabad Union FC founder) dies aged 59

Mushtaq Ahmed Rajpoot, patron of Usmanabad Union and Young Shaheen FC (District South) in Karachi, passed away after a 1 month battle with kidney cancer at Aga Khan Hospital’s ICU Ward. The late Mushtaq Ahmed Rajput leaves behind a widow, a daughter and two sons, Umar Hayat and Zameer Ahmed.

The 59 year old football enthusiast was based in CDGK Education Department for Kemari Town area. Mushtaq Rajpoot began his football career at Usmanabad’s Young Mujahid FC before later playing for Young Muhammadi FC. In 1976, he founded Usmanabad Union FC where he maintained his involvement till his passing away. Under his guidance, Usmanabad Union became one of the renowned teams across Karachi as they came runners-up in 2007 Karachi Football League final.

Mushtaq Ahmed Rajpoot’s funeral players were attended by various Karachi football personalities and they offered their condolences to the grieving family. Afterwards, the deceased was burried at Karachi’s Mewa Shah Graveyard.
