KFL 2010-11: Aga Khan Gymkhana beat Shazad Mohammadan

The 8th Karachi Football League 2010-11 saw two Group ‘B’ matches decided on 2 January 2011 at Karachi’s Aga Khan Gymkhana Football Ground – Garden West. Hosts Aga Khan Gymkhana (AKG) beat former KFL winners Shazad Mohammadan 3-1 to continue Shazad’s poor start of the league campaign while Sindh champions Kalri Star beat Mauripur Baloch 2-1 in their first game of the league season. Former footballer Mirza Amanullah Baig and Secretary Baloch Youth Dr Abdul Hameed were chief guests in respective matches.

Tournament organising secretary Riaz Ahmed declared AKG’s Mir Baaz Ali and Kalri Star’s Sarwar Baloch as the respective man of the matches for scoring twice in their respective games. AKG are now on 6 points from 2 games, while Kalri Star on 3 points after 1 game. Mauripur Baloch have 3 points from 2 games while Shazad Mohammadan sit with 0 points from 2 games.

Venue hosts Aga Khan Gymkhana overcame 2007 & 2008 KFL champs Shazad Mohammadan 3-1 to maintain their unbeaten start of the league campaign in Group ‘B’ in 2010-11 edition. AKG’s youthful squad dominated their opponents throughout the 90 minutes as they pressed on for goals. However the score was still 0-0 at half time. In second half, Mir Baaz Ali gave AKG the lead when he scored off a Gulab Khan cross but in 77th minute Shazad Mohammadan won a penalty by referee Adnan Khan when Sohail Baloch was fouled by AKG’s Zafar Baig. Amjad Baloch stepped up and duly slotted away the spot kick to tie the scores 1-1. 3 minutes later, AKG went down to 10 men because of injury to Waqas Ahmed with no more subs left on the bench as replacement.

Despite the disadvantage of playing last 10 minutes with a man down, AKG did not let Shazad Mohdn take advantage as the home side stunningly scored twice more to win the game 3-1. Gulab Khan scored from a Nauman Khan cross in 86th minute while Mir Baaz Ali scored again in 89th minute from a Kamaluddin cross.

In the next game, Sindh champions Kalri Star beat Mauripur Baloch 2-1 in an exciting affair. Sarwar Baloch gave Kalri Star the lead in 44th minute off a Muhammad Nadeem pass just before half time. But Adnan Sakhi equalised for Mauripur Baloch in 62nd minute as both sides created chances to score more. However Sarwar Baloch scored again from a Mubashir Baloch cross in 80th minute to give Kalri Star a 2-1 lead which they maintained till the final whistle.

Match referees were Ibrar Hussain (FIFA referee) and Adnan Khan while match commissioner was Member Central Zone, Abdul Karim. On Tuesday, Young Ansari tackle struggling Orangi Mohammadan at 5 PM while league organisers Karachi United face Shabaz Green at 8 PM kickoff time.
