FAME FC have all but sealed top spot in the DFA League Lahore B division after beating BURT FC 2-1 in a cracker of a football game at the FAME ground, Model Town today.
The two best teams of the B division DFA Lahore went into the game having won all their previous games knowing that only a win against their most competent rivals would ensure top spot come the end of the game.
The first half saw dominant play from the home side with FAME taking an early lead. On loan midfielder Usman Ghani Virk beat 2 defenders before sliding the ball inside for Umair Anwar to power home. The game become more 50-50 following this.
The second half saw BURT FC making some tactical re-adjustments as their side was completely on the attack with FAME FC sitting back confident of their defence as Zaka Ahmed Gondal, Ahsan Chaudry and others were handling all things defensive well. But a clean sheet was not to be as the FAME FC cb handled in the box to earn BURT a penalty which captain Saleem calmly slotted home. Another one? Full Throttle BURT!
FAME were looking to catch BURT on the counter and one such move saw Usman Virk brought down near the BURT box. The free kick made its way to an un-marked Shahid on the other side of the box and he calmly slotted home for the 2-1. Now the protest, BURT FC players stormed the referee as they said the goal was offside. To no avail.
FAME saw off the game and now coach Amir sees his team on the brink of qualification into the A division.
FAME owner/player Mr. ZIA and secretary Mr. Tajamal said after the game that the aim of the club is to reach the Pakistan Premier League in 3-4 years and become one of the top clubs in Pakistan. BURT FC coach questioned the referees decision in the award of the winning goal.
