Reigning Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) champions K-Electric (KE) will have to do without their head coach Majid Shafiq after the latter decided to part ways with the team.
K-Electric won’t be playing just one home and away play-off to reach the group stage of the AFC Cup next year but they will need to win three games against different opponents to reach the tournament proper, Asia’s football governing body said.
And to aid their preparations for the playoff, K-Electric will be taking part in the Sheikh Kamal International Club Championship in Bangladesh in October.
The magnitude of Oludeyi Abayomi Sunday’s winner for K-Electric in their AFC Cup Playoff Group ‘A’ match against Khoromkhon in Thimpu on Thursday was such that it was celebrated with great fervour back in his home country Nigeria.
K-Electric claimed a crucial 1-0 win at the 2016 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup qualifiers against Mongolian side Khoromkhon FC at the Changlimithang Stadium.
K-Electric’s newly hired coach Majid Shafiq on Monday said he was hopeful that his side would give good news to Pakistan in the 2016 AFC Cup play-off qualifiers Group A which will be hosted by Bhutan from August 9-15.
