KARACHI: Pakistan football team’s head coach Mohammed Shamlan has inducted Shehzad Anwar in his support staff, it was learnt on Friday.

“Yes, Shamlan needed a coach and he has invited Shehzad as per his plans for international assignments this year,” a top official of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) confirmed to ‘The News’.

Shehzad was called to the national team’s camp through a letter on Thursday. The camp will start in Lahore on Sunday (tomorrow). Shehzad’s name was not included in the list of the team officials which PFF had released on Thursday.

Sargodha-born Shehzad served as head coach of Pakistan team in the SAFF Cup in Nepal after the country’s Serbian coach Zavisa Milosavljevic was sacked by the PFF owing to his side’s humiliating 0-3 defeat at the hands of Afghanistan in Kabul in August last year.

Shehzad, a Licence A coach, then also toured Philippines with the team at the end of last year as assistant coach.

Pakistan team performed poorly during the recent Palestine tour when Shamlan was stopped by Israel from proceeding with his team to al-Ram for the Al-Nakba International Football tournament.

Needing a win in their last game under less skilled support staff, Pakistan were beaten by Palestine 0-3 and were thus ousted.
