Rehan Munir shines for KUFC in KFL

Rehan Munir was the hero of the day as he scored both of Karachi United’s goal when the side caused an upset in the ongoing 9th Karachi Football League (KFL 2011-12) by beating ex-District East Champion Burma Mohammedan Korangi 2-0 in the super eight phase at the Baloch Mujahid Stadium here on Sunday evening.

The match began with frantic action as Karachi United’s attacking mentality clearly took Burma Mohammedan by surprise in the opening minutes. It was not long before Karachi United took the lead as a 7th minute cross from the right winger Kareem Kerai, put into the back of the net by frontrunner Rehan Munir to give the host side a 1-0 lead.

The scoreline remained the same at half time with Burma Mohammedan shaken by a confident and bold opposition.

In the second half, the game opened up even further as a good crowd in the Baloch Mujahid Stadium witnessed an action packed temp from both sides. But Karachi United were looking for the kill in 89th minute when Goal keeper Mohammad Shazad long drive and Rehan Munir collect the ball from top of the penalty box, dodged two Burma Mohammedan players including goal keeper Abdul Ghani to put Karachi United 2-0 up. Rehan Munir 16th goal of the event and he maintained his top scorer position.

The widening deficit clearly disheartened Burma Mohammedan but their striker Anees Ahmed, Mohammad Ayub , Imran Shakoor and Jaffer Ullah did attempt to reduce it. However, Karachi United Goal keeper ex-International and two times SAFF Games Gold Medalist Mohammad Shazad denied the opposition any chance to score past him in the dying moment as his side prevailed 2-0 at the end to record another three points .

The match was supervised by referees Saleem Babar, Chaudhry Sarfraz and Babar Khan with Abdul Karim as the match commissioner.

The win helped Karachi United climb to the 4th place on points table with 8 points from 4 games, while Burma Mohammedan remained with 5 points from 5 games.
