The Pakistan U20 men’s national football team squad departed for Azerbaijan from Islamabad earlier after a brief meet with Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) president Syed Mohsen Gilani on 3 June 2026.
Under newly appointed head coach Muhammad Essa Khan, the U20 team is scheduled to face home side Azerbaijan U20s on 9 June at the Gabala City Stadium in a friendly game.
The match comes amid confirmed reports of Pakistan not participating in the AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers that raised strong concerns from fans and media of inadequate international participation badly hampering Pakistani football’s growth.
Back in March, Pakistan U20 then under head Shahzad Anwar, had lost both group stage games in the SAFF U20 Championship to eventual champions Bangladesh 2-0 and India 3-0.
