The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) announced the appointment of Dawn sports editor and journalist Syed Umaid Wasim as their new Director of Media.
His career at Dawn has seen him cover 3 FIFA World Cups, several AFC Asian Cups, and the various governance and administrative crises plaguing the PFF for over a decade.
Umaid Wasim’s appointment in PFF is meant to streamline the Federation’s media and communications strategy moving forward, something which PFF president Syed Mohsen Gilani has sometimes hinted at doing since winning the PFF elections at the end of May 2025.
In a press release shared across PFF’s social media accounts, Umaid Wasim joining was revealed on Monday, 2 February 2026.

Umaid Wasim was most recently the Sports Editor at DAWN Newspaper, having covered football for over a decade.
Regarded as one of the most credible voices in Pakistan football, he has covered the last three FIFA World Cups among numerous other international events, bringing a wealth of experience of top-level football coverage.
As the PFF Director Media, Umaid Wasim will be shaping PFF’s communications strategy. He will also oversee press relations for PFF’s local and international tournaments and act as a spokesperson on key issues.
