Bangkok, Thailand: Pakistan women’s futsal team maintained their winning streak in the 2026 SAFF Futsal Championship. The Nonthaburi Indoor Stadium witnessed Pakistan beat Maldives 3-1 and, temporarily, topped the women’s event table with 7 points in 3 games.
Azwa Chaudhry gave the Shaheens an early lead when she smartly finished past Maldives goalkeeper Saiga Hussain from a Kayanat Bokhari corner after 3 minutes. Yet, Maldives immediately responded in 9th minute when Mariyam Noora smashed a free kick past Pakistan goalkeeper Jennah Farooki to draw level.
But Pakistan eventually regained their lead when captain Kayanat Bokhari lobbed a Jennah Farooki ball over Saiga Hussain and into the net. At the break, the score remained 2-1 in favour to Pakistan.
In 2nd period, Pakistan head coach Fatemeh Sharif Noghabi made several changes to give bench players some minutes as Maldives chased an equalizer. However, Anmol Hira pounced at a rebound to make it 3-1 for Pakistan in 23rd minute. The remaining period saw both teams try to score but it remained 3-1 at full time.
In other women’s fixtures, Bangladesh and Bhutan battled a 3-3 draw while India thrashed Nepal 8-1. On Sunday, 18 January, Pakistan men’s team face Sri Lanka at 3:00pm PKT and will look to maintain momentum after beating Bhutan 4-2 on the 16th.
