Bangkok, Thailand: The Pakistan men’s futsal national team finally won their first ever international fixture after a stunning 4-2 win over Bhutan in the 2026 SAFF Futsal Championship – Men’s event.
Less than 24 hours after the Pakistan women’s side gave the country its first ever futsal win, the men followed suit at the Hua Mak Indoor Arena in Bangkok. This time, the women’s side were also in the stands cheering the men’s on.
After suffering repeated losses in the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup qualifiers in Saudi Arabia last year, and reeling from 7-1 humbling by Maldives on opening day, Pakistan were once again staring at defeat. Bhutan raced to a 2-0 lead by the end of the first period as Dawa Tshering scored twice past Pakistan goalkeeper Muhammad Tahir.
But in the second period, Pakistan turned it around as captain Muhammad Hassaan Zafar Khan led from the front to pull one back in 28th minute. As Bhutan reeled under constant Pakistan pressure, Asif Ahmad Chaudhry smashed in the equaliser past goalkeeper Tashi Norbu in 32nd minute.
Before Bhutan could even regroup, two quickfire goals from Muhammad Adan Ashfaq made it 4-2 by the 35th minute. Pakistan then held on to defend the lead and stopped repeated attacks in the final minutes to finally end their losing streak and get the precious win.
In the other men’s fixtures, Nepal edged Sri Lanka 2-1 while Maldives again scored big by smashing Bangladesh 6-1. Tomorrow, 17 January, the women’s team returns to face Maldives at 6:00pm PKT.
