Maldives humble Pakistan in Men’s SAFF Futsal

Bangkok, Thailand: Pakistan suffered a humbling 7-1 loss at the hands of Maldives in their opening game of the 2026 SAFF Futsal Championship – Men’s event at the Nonthaburi Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

A day after the Pakistan women’s futsal team grounded out a 1-1 draw against Bhutan in the women’s event, the men’s side were on the backfoot from the start.

Maldives raced to a 5-0 lead by the end of the first period thanks to relentless attacks against a brittle Pakistan defence. Ahmed Hameed, Ali Shiyah, Mohamed Imran, Zaidhaan Ahmed and Ali Shamal Abdulla all found the net for Maldives.

In the 2nd period, Maldives again scored twice, with Mohamed Imran scoring his second of the game alongside Abdulla Shafiu. Pakistan were able to find a consolation via Nisar Hussain sandwiched between Maldives’ sixth and seventh goals.

In other men’s fixtures, Bhutan and Sri Lanka played a thrilling 3-3 draw while India and Bangladesh also finished 4-4. Pakistan now face Bhutan on 16 January with a 3:00pm PKT while in the women’s event, Pakistan face Sri Lanka tomorrow on the 15th with a 6:00pm PKT kickoff.
