PFF delegation discusses strategic roadmap with AFC officials [The News]

LAHORE / ISLAMABAD: In a landmark development for Pakistan football, a high-level delegation from the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF), led by President Syed Mohsen Gilani, held its first official meeting with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) officials at its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

The PFF delegation included Vice President Hafiz Zaka Ullah, Acting General Secretary Muhammad Shahid Niaz Khokhar, and Director of International Relations and Development Omair Ullah Khan. The AFC side was headed by General Secretary Datuk Seri Windsor John, and comprised senior officials including Deputy General Secretary Shin Man Gil, Director Legal Affairs Andrew Mercer, Director Commercial Andrew Rogers, and Head of Football Development Jose Marcelino Z. Carpio, among others.

The meeting covered a wide spectrum of football development priorities including youth development and grassroots expansion; club licensing and governance reforms; referee and coaching education; and infrastructure support and hosting opportunities.

President Gilani emphasized transparency, merit, and long-term planning as central pillars of the federation’s strategy. “This visit reflects the profound all-around support of the AFC under the vision of its President, His Highness Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, for the development of football in Pakistan,” he stated.

He also acknowledged the leadership of Windsor John, whose guidance has been instrumental in stabilizing PFF’s administration. The AFC delegation reaffirmed its support for Pakistan football’s revival, especially in light of recent progress including the FIFA Arena Program and Football for Schools initiative, both of which aim to modernize infrastructure and embed football into Pakistan’s educational framework.

This engagement follows a broader trend of reactivation within Pakistan’s football circles, including youth camps, futsal squad announcements, and the onboarding of international coaches like Nolberto Solano. With AFC’s backing, the PFF aims to restore its standing in Asian football and deliver on its promise of inclusive, merit-based progress informed an official.
