ISLAMABAD: The members of National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Sports Friday were furious at the repeated absence of Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) Normalization Committee’s (NC) Chairman Haroon Malik and on those federations that so far have failed to submit their audited financial report with the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).

The committee’s meeting that was held at the Parliament House rejected NC members Shahid Khokhar and Saud Hashmi’s plea of briefing, maintaining that Chairman NC’s presence was a must.

“We would not spare anyone creating hurdles in ensuring transparency. Chairman NC should have been here to clarify the ambiguity involved around the football elections at the district level. We also want to listen to him as to why some of the senior officials were banned,” NA Committee Chairman Sanaullah Khan Mastikhail said.

The committee chairman maintained the committee was considering writing a letter to the FIFA. “We have decided not to write to FIFA as it would send a bad message to the outside world. We want every detail on the NC’s functions and its inability to hold free and fair PFF elections at the earliest.”

Outgoing Secretary Ministry for IPC Nadeem Irshad Kayani told the members that the NC was not serious on briefing NA body members. “Look at the NC members’ presence, they don’t know about the extension, date of their appointment and even perks and privileges they enjoy. They are here to make fun of all,” he added.

The NA committee called on all the sports federations to submit details of expenses with the PSB failing which respective officials would be summoned. “We would not tolerate any delay.” PSB DG Yasir Peerzada briefed the committee that out of 44 federations nine have so far submitted audited reports.

“Despite the reminders we have not received any details from these federations.” The committee chairman decided to send reminders to all the federations. “A letter to all those federations will be sent by the Committee stressing on them to submit the financial audited report at the earliest or to face the music.”

The committee chairman also instructed NC members to ensure their chairman’s presence in the next meeting along with the necessary details on elections and reasons behind their lengthy stay at the helm of affairs. “Details on those officials who were banned by the NC should also be submitted.”
