The 2024 National Women’s Football Club Championship saw 5 more matches across 4 cities in Pakistan with plenty of goals scored earlier today.
Morning kickoff at Lahore’s Punjab Stadium saw Train With Kaka (TWK) FC become the first team in this edition to qualify for the next round. The Lahore centre’s last game had TWK run riot over Real Lahore 5-0 to win the three-team group with 6 points out of 6 and a +26 goal difference. Real Lahore finished 2nd on 3 points while YRS Layyah were bottom with 0 points as both sides bowed out of contention for the next round in Islamabad.
Islamabad’s Jinnah Sports Complex saw Legacy WFC overcome Gilgit WFC a resounding 10-0 to win their three-team group and also qualify for the next round. Legacy finished this round with 6 points, Gilgit with 3 points, and SMURFS with 0 points after two games each.
In Quetta’s BUITEMS Ground, Hazara Quetta beat Hazara United 2-0 to confirm their next round appearance with their third successive win and also topped their four-team group with 9 points.
In Karachi, two matches were held at separate venues. At KPT Stadium, Karachi United maintained their winning form with another win after thrashing MUK FC 5-0 to confirm their next round place as group winners. Karachi United finished with 6 points, MUK with 3 points, and Young Muslim with 0 points in their three-team group.
The other Karachi game at Jahangir Memorial Ground saw Karachi City win another double-digit scoreline 33-0. Their opponents, Mohsen Gillani WFC had no chance. The win also meant Karachi City won their three-team group with 6 points and a staggering +77 goal difference in two matches, while Mohsen Gillani WFC and Jahangir Memorial bowed out with 3 points and 0 points respectively.
Yesterday’s 7-0 win by JAFA over Karachi WFC more or less confirmed their own next round appearance after two other teams from their group – Shaheed Benazir Bhutto WFC and Hazara Girls FA – were withdrawn from the tournament for unknown reasons and were not able to play any match as a result.
The last games for Round One will be tomorrow, 25 July. In Karachi, Diya WFC face Overseas WFC. In Islamabad, Highlanders FC face Strikers FC. In Quetta, Quetta WFC face Balochistan WFC.
