Army smash PACA, Navy stun KRL in Challenge Cup R2 start

Islamabad, 1 May 2024: The much-delayed Round Two of the 2023-24 National Football Challenge Cup began on May Day today with results from Group A and B at Islamabad’s Jinnah Sports Complex. All matches kicked off at either 2:00pm or 4:30pm PST.

In Group A, Higher Education Commission (HEC) thrashed Quetta’s NIMSO 3-1. Fakhar Abbas, Ahmed Hassan, and Hammad Hassan scored for HEC – comprising university footballers from across the country – while Zulfiqar Ali gave the lone response for NIMSO.

Other Group A clash saw former champions Pakistan Army smashed Pak Afghan Clearing Agency (PACA) of Chaman 4-0. A brace from Qadeer and goals apiece from Abrar and Salman helped give Army a convincing win over PACA.

In Group B, the all-Faisalabad affair between SA Farms and Masha United ended in a goalless 0-0 draw. However, the other Group B clash saw Pakistan Navy stun tournament favourites Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) 3-1. Noman Dodo, Muhammad Naeem and Abdul Rehman all scored for Navy while KRL only had a solitary goal from Ali Agha.

On Thursday, 2 May, Groups C and D will have their opening fixtures. Group C sees WSTC face Pakistan Police while defending NFCC champs from 2020, WAPDA, face Otto Cranes. In Group D, SA Gardens take on Pakistan Railways while former winners Pakistan Air Force (PAF) face Asia Ghee Mills.
