WAPDA-SSGC final set for Challenge Cup

LAHORE: Pakistan Premier League giants WAPDA and the star-studded Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) were confirmed as the 2020 National Challenge Cup finalists on Friday, 18 December at the Punjab Stadium.

In the semifinals, Wapda beat defending champions Pakistan Army 1-0 while SSGC downed Karachi Port Trust 2-0.

The two teams will meet in the final at 12pm PST on Sunday, 20 December. Army and KPT will play the 3rd/4th place game earlier that day at 10am.

Mohammad Ahmad’s 67th minute header proved to be the winner for WAPDA to finally end Army’s attempt to retaining their Challenge Cup title.

SSGC, in a dominating performance against KPT, were helped by goals by Mohammad Lal (63′) and captain Saddam Hussain (78′) to book a ticket for Sunday’s final.

WAPDA and SSGC have never won the National Challenge Cup ever in their history. WAPDA last PFF-level title was the 2010 PPL a decade ago while SSGC are chasing a first-ever title ever since they had established a football team a few years back.
