LAHORE: Pakistan Army beat Khan Research Laboratories on penalties (3-0) after a 2-2 draw while Wapda defeated SA Gardens 3-0 to qualify for the 2020 National Challenge Cup semifinals.
In a neck and neck quarter-final match, Army were a goal up in the 20th minute, courtesy Ali Raza, Mudassar equalised for KRL in the 55th before Ansar Abbas made it 2-1 in the 72nd minute.
Mudassar scored his second goal in the 83rd minute to equalise for KRL, the goal lead the match to Extra Time, which went goalless.
Therefore, the match had to be decided through penalty shootout. KRL missed their first three penalties while Army scored all to win the shootout 3-0.
In the second quarter-final, Ashfaquddin (5′, 56′) scored a brace and Ahtisham (90+5′) scored the third goal for Wapda to confirm a 3-0 win over SA Gardens.
Army will take on Wapda in the first semi-final. The two remaining semi-finalists will be decided on Tuesday when Higher Education Commission play Karachi Port Trust and Sui Southern Gas Company take on Pakistan Airforce.
