The 12th National Women’s Football Championship 2019, the first nationwide event under the PFF Normalization Committee, saw the conclusion of its Karachi group games earlier.
In Group 3, Mohsen Gilani WFC thrashed Sindh Women’s team 8-1 to get their second win of the event at the Karachi United Stadium in Clifton, Karachi. Muqaddas scored her second hattrick of the tournament with 5 goals after scoring her first one against CDSS in a previous group game where she also scored 5.
Mohsen Gilani WFC raced to a 5-0 lead at half time with four from Muqaddas and one from Areeba, with Muqaddas adding her fifth of the game followed by 2 goals from Tamanna late in the second half. Fizza scored Sindh’s lone consolation. However, Mohsen Gilani WFC finished 3rd in their group behind Karachi United and Karachi Kickers who qualified in their stead.
At a total of 10 goals, Muqaddas now tops the scoring charts followed by Karachi United’s Naina Zehri on 9 and Karachi Kickers’ Areeba Aziz with 8 goals to their respective names. So far 100 goals have been scored in this edition overall.
In Islamabad centre qualifiers of Group 7, Army obliterated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa women 22-0 while Hawks WFC were awarded a 3-0 walkover after Frontier WFC failed to turn up for the game at Jinnah Stadium.
The final round of the Women Championship shall be played early in January 2020 in Karachi following the conclusion of other group qualifiers being played in Lahore and Rawalpindi/Islamabad.
From Karachi, JAFA WFC of Group 1, Diya WFC of Group 2, and both Karachi United and Karachi Kickers from Group 3 have qualified for final round. From the Lahore and Islamabad matches, WAPDA from Group 4, Punjab from Group 5, ad Gilgit Baltistan from Group 6 have also qualified for main round. Only Group 7 matches remain with Army hot favorites to qualify in strong fashion.
