Leisure Leagues school football begins with festival match in Karachi


Karachi, May 15: Leisure Leagues Schools and Academies U-16 Football Championship has exploded into action with an opening match between 16-Star Academy and Anglophile Public School here at 16-Star Football Ground the other day.

In the opening and exhibition match, host 16-Star Academy won the match by 1-0 score, with Mohammad Rafay scoring the lone goal of the match.

On the occasion, chief guest Shamsuddin Deputy Director Education Karachi said that all schools that come under Sindh Government will participate in the Leisure Leagues event.

He praised Trunkwala family for making efforts to revive school football in the country and extended his full support and also lauded model of the championship.

He added that Sindh Government has been working diligently to promote sports in the province and the successful holding of recently concluded Sindh Games is its proof.

According to Leisure Leagues Area Manager Riaz Ahmed, several leagues will be organized throughout the province after the holy month of Ramadan. He added that later these events will be extended to other provinces as well.

According to Riaz, minimum 16 teams will be seen in action during the league at a single venue. Later, Inter Schools and Academies Championship will also be organized among winners. Its winner team will participate in City Championship.

Each player can register for a nominal monthly fee of Rs 100, where each player will get an opportunity to player four weekly matches.

He added that the extraordinary performance in the said championship can help players to participate in Leisure Leagues National Championship and get selected even for Leisure Leagues World Cup squad.

Riaz Ahmed further said these championships would also provide a chance for players to find career in football not only as player but also as match coordinator, referee and match supervisor for Leisure Leagues.

Meanwhile, Riaz Ahmed has also invited colleges and universities to register their both male and female teams for these events.

Coordinator Sports Karachi Nusrat Hussain, Haroon Shirazi, Mohammad Shahzad, Mehboob Khan, Mohammad Azhar and others were also present on the occasion.
