KARACHI: Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) emerged as group champions when they inflicted a 3-0 defeat on Pakistan Steel in their second and last Group A outing of the First Naya Nazimabad Departmental Football tournament here at the KMC Stadium on Saturday.
International midfielder Mehmood Khan put SSGC ahead in the 16th minute through a fine field goal. Mohammad Lal doubled the lead in the 28th minute before International Saeed Ahmed completing the rout through a 76th minute strike.
SSGC finished their short three-team group journey on a high note with six points at the summit. They had crushed Sindh Police 5-1 in their opener the other day.
Pakistan Steel are also in the quarter-finals as they had beaten Sindh Police in their opener.
Meanwhile, in Group B clash, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) kept their hopes alive when they upstaged the group’s weakest side Pak PWD 1-0.
Awais landed the decisive goal in the second minute. After early breakthrough SNGPL, who were beaten by Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) the other day, did not avail a few chances that came their way.
In the event, 14 departmental teams are vying for the top honours.
