KARACHI: Striker Mohammad Rasool hit four goals to guide Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) to a 6-4 triumph over Karachi Port Trust (KPT) in their match of the 9th Pakistan Premier Football League here at the KPT Stadium on Tuesday, 11 Dec 2012.
“I am still not yet fully fit and feel a lot of pain in my knee but I had to play in the absence of Essa and tried hard to score goals for my team,” Rasool told ‘The News’.
Abdul Salam and Aurangzeb Senior were the other scorers for the winners. For the losers Naved Ahmed, Fahim Shah, Mohammad bin Younis and Zafar Majeed contributed a single goal each.
KESC took the field without their playmaker and skipper Mohammad Essa, who is nursing a knee injury, and goalkeeper Jehangir Shah who returned from Sri Lanka on Tuesday along with Pakistan Under-23 team, which ended runners-up in the Mahinda Rajapksa Challenge Trophy after losing to Maldives 2-3 in the final in Nawalapitiya the other day.
KESC had to field the newly-recruited goalie Nooruddin who did not impress as the visitors conceded three goals in the final 11 minutes. KPT were off to a fine start when they went ahead through Naved Ahmed in the second minute. But KESC, who looked in a fiery mood, struck four goals inside 24 minutes to take the game away from the hosts.
Of the four, Rasool struck three in 13th, 27th and 37th minutes to complete his second hat-trick of the season, while Abdul Salam landed one in the 37th minute with an excellent field effort.
At half time, KESC were leading 4-1. After the breather KESC added to the misery of KPT with two more goals through Mohammad Rasool and Aurangzeb Senior, who fired these in the 67th and 69th minutes, respectively.
At this stage it looked that KESC would further add to their tally but exactly the opposite happened as their defence got relaxed and conceded three goals. Fahim Shah, Mohammad Bin Younis and Zafar Majeed (injury time) created these goals for the hosts who left the field a bit relaxed after reducing the deficit upto a certain extent.
KESC coach Akber Baloch blamed the goalie for conceding four goals. “In the absence of our key gloveman Jehangir we were testing Nooruddin under the cage but he seemed altogether to be a weak keeper,” said Akber.
“But at least we got the win which we needed, enhancing our points tally,” said Akber. KPT coach Mohammad Asif was frustrated with the loss. “I think it was a disappointing performance at our own backyard,” said Asif. “We conceded three goals due to goalkeeping blunders as Shoaib made big mistakes under the cage which he should not have made.”
The victory catapulted KESC to 42 points from 20 meetings, while the loss left KPT struggling at 20 points from 21 appearances.
Today’s fixtures: Baloch FC v WAPDA (Nushki Football Stadium, Nushki, Balochistan), Wohaib FC v KRL (Fame Football Ground, Model Town, Lahore), NBP v PAF (KPT Stadium, Karachi).
