FATA football team named for Punjab Games

PESHAWAR: President FATA Football Association Shahid Khan Shinwari Friday announced an 18-member football team for the Punjab Youth Games, starting from November 6.

The selection committee headed by Shahid thoroughly witnessed all the 112 players, who appeared in the two-day trials held at Sumbal Khan Football ground, Qayyum Sports Complex.

They then announced the names of final 18-member team and team coach Anwar Ali Shinwari and team manager Nisar Khan.

The players are Junaid Khan and Jamil Khan (Goal-Keeper), Zagar Khan, Hafiz Ullah Shah, Javed Khan, Nawaz Gul, Akbar, Iftikhar, Sadam, Asif, Lawat Shah, Niaz Muhammad (Captain), Noorzeb, Rashad Shinwari, Mustafa and Ashfaq Khan Afridi.

Besides, trials were also held for table tennis, badminton and athletics as FATA would take part in Punjab Youth Games for the first time in the history and carry its own FATA flag.

Those selected for athletics are Sami Ullah, Abdul Wahab, Mushtaq and Alam Sadam (Khyber), Khuzran (FR Bannu), Zaib Ullah (Khyber), Qasim (FR Bannu), Iltaf (Mohmand Agency).

Nazia Zaki, Assistant Director Sports FATA, told APP that she did not want to hold trials of the female players of FATA and selection has been made from among only the short-listed invited players. The FATA contingent will leave for Lahore on November 5.
