KARACHI: Chaman’s Muslim FC held star-studded National Bank to a goalless draw, while Nushki’s Baloch FC extended tough fight and managed to hold Karachi Port Trust (KPT) to a 1-1 draw in the 9th Pakistan Premier Football League here on Wednesday.
The game between heavyweights Army and WAPDA also ended in a goalless stalemate in Lahore.
At the Aga Khan Gymkhana Ground, Muslim FC produced another fine performance and held the experienced side of National Bank after a tough fight which went on till the final whistle.
“We again missed three sure chances,” Muslim FC coach Mohammad Dawood told ‘The News’. “Our boys played really well. I will give full marks to midfielder Hayatullah who fed the strikers skillfully but every time they failed to convert the opportunities; a few of them very easy one,” added Dawood.
“But still I am happy as we are producing some good results against professional sides,” the coach said. Meanwhile, National Bank coach Nasir Ismail blamed his frontline for the selfish approach. “I think our forwards remained too selfish. I once again advise them to play for the team and not for themselves,” Nasir said.
He also praised the rivals Muslim FC for brilliant showing. “Muslim FC played fine and had our keeper Mohammad Omar not saved a couple of sure goals we could have been in deep trouble,” Nasir observed.
“We have lost 12 points with the draws and that has harmed us a lot,” added Nasir, a License A coach.
The single point helped National Bank move to 15 points from nine meetings, with three wins and six draws.
Muslim FC stretched their tally to 14 from nine appearances. They have won three, lost one and drawn five matches.
At the KPT Stadium, Sanaullah struck an equaliser with a brilliant free-kick from outside the area by clearing the wall, to guide Baloch FC hold KPT to a 1-1 draw. Earlier, Mohammad bin Younis had put KPT ahead on rebound in the 28th minute.
“We missed too many chances. I don’t know why our strikers are too impatient as they should be in a proper position before trying for the goals,” KPT Sports Manager Shah Naeem Zafar said.
With the output KPT pushed their points to eight from eight games, with two wins, two draws and four defeats.
Baloch FC, who earned second draw in Karachi, moved to seven points from eight games, with one victory, four draws and three defeats.
Former champions Army played well before being held by four-time Premier League champions WAPDA at the Railways Stadium in Lahore. WAPDA keeper Rao Yameen displayed fine guts under the cage and saved three certain goals.
Army pushed their tally to eight points from six matches while WAPDA advanced to 11 points from five outings.
