KARACHI: Striker Mohammad Rasool hit four goals to shepherd leaders Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) to a 5-0 victory over underdogs Nushki’s Baloch FC, while Chaman’s Muslim FC stunned Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) 1-0 in the 9th Pakistan Premier Football League here on Thursday, 20 September 2012.
At the KPT Stadium, Chitral-born dashing striker Mohammad Rasool regained form at the right time, scoring the first hat-trick of the season, landing goals in fifth, 54th, 60th and 76th minutes.
He was joined on the scoresheet by Mohammad Moosa who scored in the 21st minute on a fine minus pass. This was the second loss for Baloch FC who have to their credit five points from as many games.
They completely failed to offer any resistance against the impressive KESC who inflated their points tally to 17 from seven matches, which included five wins and two draws.
KESC manager Hasan Baloch said that the rivals did not show any resistance and it was smooth sailing for them. “Baloch FC completely lost their stamina in the second half and we got full advantage of that by scoring three goals,” he said. “It is good for us that Rasool has got his rhythm back and scored the first hat-trick of the tournament. This will put pressure on the other teams when they play against us,” said the KESC official.
Glorious showing from Rasool forced the jury to award him both the awards of the best scorer and the best player of the game.
For the first time, Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has introduced cash awards for top individual performers of every match.
At the Korangi Baloch Football Ground in Sharafi Goth, injury-infested PIA suffered their second loss from six matches as they were beaten by Muslim FC who have been impressive in the top league for the last two seasons.
It was a tough game with both sides offering tough resistance to each others’ attacks.
Muslim FC were reduced to 10 men when Hayatullah was sent off for a foul in the area in the 31st minute. This gave a good opportunity to PIA to put pressure on the visitors but they failed and conceded a goal when Saeed Ahmed struck the winner for Chaman’s outfit in the injury time. The win took Muslim FC to nine points from six games, which included two wins and two draws. PIA were left struggling at eight points from six appearances.
Former champions Army pulled off their first win of the season when they overwhelmed the newly-promoted Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) 3-0 at the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad.
Abdul Rehman put the soldiers ahead in the 17th minute. Soon after the start of the second half international defender Mohammad Ikram doubled Army’s lead with a fine goal before Ansar Abbas hit the third for the winners who moved to four points from four appearances. ZTBL have two points from two matches.
