Askani Brothers (Baldia Town) finally recorded their first win after 4 successive draws in the ongoing Karachi Engro Vopak Football League 2012 with a 5-2 win over Azam Sports (Drigh Road) yesterday, 8 March 2012, at Korangi Baloch Stadium in Sharafi (Karachi).
Azam Sports fielded youth players in the game given their place in the Last-8 was already confirmed. Askani Brothers, desperate for a next round place, took advantage of Azam Sports weakened side but winger Naveed Ullah gave Azam Sports a 1-0 lead after 25 minutes played.
Askani Brothers then fought back hard in 2nd half with Zubair Angara hitting a remarkable 4 goals (49′, 73′, 76′, 80′) and Zubair Ahmed scoring once in 70th minute to make it 5 for Askani Brothers. Azam Sports did score again when Naveed Ullah made it 5-2 in 70th minute but Askani Brothers held on to the massive lead to record a vital win.
Referees were M Umar Baloch, Babar Khan, M Kamran, and match commissioner Abdul Karim.
For his 4 goal hat-trick, the 3rd hat-trick over-all in current league, Zubair Angara won the Rs 500 cash Man of the Match award from DFA Malir secretary Shahid Taj on behalf of organisers FC Rovers (Malir Cantt).
The win left Askani Brothers level on points with Baloch FC Malir with 7 each from 5 games but with Askani having a higher goal-difference. Both sides will face off later in the week in final group game to decide who gets the next round spot, with Askani Brothers now only needing to avoid defeat to confirm their place.
