The 2012 All-Karachi Engro Vopak Football League saw a tense Group B affair between home side Jam XI (Malir) and Azam Sports (Drigh Road) yesterday, 13 Feb 2012. Amir Hussain’s goal proved enough for Jam XI to win the tie 1-0 at Jam Stadium in Malir, Karachi.
Jam XI had to thank goalkeeper Arshad Nabi for keeping out various dangerous chances from Azam Sports through out the game, and as a result was given the Man of the Match cash award of Rs 500 by Malir National FC secretary Rafique Baloch. This was done after consultation among jury members Shahid Taj, Riaz Ahmed, and Shabir Peter who all praised Arshad Nabi’s performance against Janbaz Sports.
Azam Sports played slightly better than Jam XI in the game, but they failed to convert their chances to score. Their strikers Jahanzeb, Furqan Ullah, Saleem Ullah, Aqeel Khan, and Naveed Ullah failed to beat Jam XI goalie Arshad Nabi. Jam XI then took the 1-0 lead after 21 minutes when a Arif Hameed pass was converted into a goal by Amir Hussain.
Jam XI had the chance to further their lead through Arif Hameed, Asif Qasim, and Liaquat Siddiqui but they failed to beat Janbaz Sports’ goalie Shahid Islam during the game. Eventually, score remained 1-0 in favour of Jam XI at the end. Referees were Aziz Pasha, Babar Khan, M Ishaq, 4th official Abdul Basit, and match commissioner Abdul Karim.
