Ghani XI beat FC Rovers in Founders Baloch Mujahid Cup

The All-Karachi Founders of Baloch Mujahid Memorial Football Cup, being played at Baloch Mujahid Stadium in Ibrahim Hyderi, saw former District West champions Ghani XI beat FC Rovers (Malir) 3-1 yesterday to go through to the next round.

The match began with frantic pace with FC Rovers taking early initiatives through star winger Irfan Junejo. Faraz Pervez came close to scoring after just 2 minutes from a superb pass from Irfan, before Irfan himself opened the scoring for his side in 11th minute when he rounded Ghani XI goalkeeper Akhtar Ali to score for FC Rovers. However, Ghani XI came back strongly and equalised 3 minutes later when Sarfraz latched on to a superb pass from Mushtaq and scored following a mistake by Rovers goalkeeper Nauman Anwar. The score remained 1-1 at half time.

In 2nd half, Ghani XI went all out on Rovers as Hashmat Ullah made it 2-1 for Ghani 10 minutes after restart. Rovers attempted to fight back to level the scores but failed to convert many golden chances with striker Arieb Zaidi missing an open net on one occasion. In the end, Ghani XI put the tie beyond Rovers’ reach when Rehan Khan made it 3-1 with just minutes left as they went through to the next round. Referees were Shaukat Ali, Abdul Wahid, M Kamran, M Ilyas, while match commissioner was Abid Raza Baloch.
