Karachi football round-up

On the directives of Nauman Arshad, Administrator of Landhi Town, Korangi Gymkhana Football Ground (Korangi) hosted the Hamara Karachi Qarardad-e-Pakistan Festival Football match between hosts Korangi Gymkhana and Burma Mohammadan (Korangi) 5:30 PM. The game finished 0-0 but Burma Mohammadan was awarded an honorary victory as the visiting team on the suggestion of chief guest and Korangi Gymkhana FC President, Muhammad Nadeem. He also presented winners trophy to Burma Mohammadan, runners-up trophy to Korangi Gymkhana, and Man of the Match award to Korangi Gymkhana’s young player Faizan Khan.


Also present in the game were Abdul Karim (member Central Zone), Muhammad Rafique (Senior VP, Korangi Gymkhana), Khalid Majeed, Saleem Arif, Nadeem Arif, Waseem Arif, sports journalist Riaz Ahmed, national referee Babar Khan, Muhammad Aslam etc alongside a sizeable crowd attending the exhibition game. The chief guest lauded the efforts of club secretary Waseem Arif in organising the festival match as well as presenting Rs 5,000 to his club as an award for their efforts to promote football in the area.

Khyber Muslim FC (Baldia Town) organised a commemorative Quran Khawani in memory of late Syed Liaquat Shah, senior Vice President Zone West and National Afridi FC secretary. Syed Liaquat Shah was tragically killed in a road accident enroute to Balochistan a month back. The venue for the Quran Khawani was Community Hall in Baldia Town No.7. Many residents, officers, relatives, and football enthusiasts from the area and from all over Karachi attended the deceased’s Quranic commemoration.

Among the attendees were Zafar Iqbal (Chairman Zone West), Rahim Bakhsh (Secretary Zone West), Gulab Baloch (Chairman Zone South), Murad Bakhsh, Abid Hussain Bhatti, Muhammad Azhar (Secretary Khyber Muslim), Ustad Tufail Niazi, Iqbal Minhas, Ch. Israr, Sameen Khan, Babar Khan (coach of National Afridi), Sarzameen Khan (captain of National Afridi), Muhammad Arif, Abdul Karim (member Central Zone), Khalid Majeed, Waleem Faiz and others. Afterwards, everyone present offered Fateha prayer in memory of the late Syed Liaquat Shah and prayed for his family’s strength in handling this grave tragedy.

Young Rasheedabad FC will also host a Quranic commemoration of late Syed Liaquat Shah on 9th April at its office premises near the Rasheedabad Petrol Pump between Asar and Maghrib prayer times. Club chairman Wali Khan, president Muhammad Hanif, and club in-charge Abid Shah have invited local residents and members/representatives of various football clubs to attend and commemorate the deceased in the Quran Khawani and offering Fateha prayers.
