Organised by the Aga Khan University (AKU) Sports & Rehabilitation Centre at the AKU Football Ground, the 9th AKU Inter-University Football Tournament 2011 saw the results 3 games in Day 2 of its competition on 5 April 2011.
In Group ‘C’, the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science & Technology (SZABIST) beat the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) a resounding 3-1. Yawar Nabi gave SZABIST the lead after 14 minutes, which IBoM’s Irfan Junejo (also of FC Rovers, Malir) equalised in 21st minute as the game was 1-1 at half time. In 2nd half, goals from Waleed Rashid (53′) and Ali Hasan (55′) gave SZABIST an imposing 3-1 lead which they maintained till the end to gain their first 3 points of the competition.
In Group ‘D’, Hamdard University (HU) opened their account with a 3-1 victory over Baqai Medical University (BMU). BMU’s Kaleemullah gave his side the lead after just 4 minutes, but HU fought back with 2 goals from Muhammad Bilal (20′ and 22′) to take a 2-1 lead by half-time. Shehzad Afzal scored in 65th minute to give HU a 3-1 lead for a vital victory.
In Group ‘B’, Balochistan University of Information Technology & Management Sciences (BUITMS) beat the Institute of Business Administration Reserve side (IBA-Reserves) a resounding 6-1. Zahoor Shah (15′) and Waseemuddin (10′) gave BUITMS a 2-0 lead before half time. In 2nd half, IBA-Reserves remained on backfoot as further goals from Zahoor Shah (55′), Umar Farooq (58′), Jamshed ur Rehman (67′) and Shahabuddin (68′) made BUITMS romp through 6-1 at the end. IBA-Reserves lone scored was Asadullah Naqvi (57′).
The matches were supervised by referees Naseer Ahmed, Khalid Mumtaz, Abdul Wahid, Imran Ali, with Official Scorer Sajjad Akbar, and Match Commissioners Munawar Khan and Qamar Ali.
On Thursday, 7 April 2011, 3 more games will be played. Sir Syed University of Engineering * Technology (SSUET) clash with SZABIST at 2 PM, HU face Ziauddin University (ZU) at 3 PM, while defending champions NED University face Muhammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU) at 5 PM.
