The 8th Karachi Football League 2010-11 Quarter-final stage witnessed another shock as Baloch Youth Garden knocked out Lyari favourites and former Sindh champions Kalri Star 2-0 in a tense game on Monday, 14 March 2011 at Baloch Mujahid Stadium in Ibrahim Hyderi.
An entertaining encounter saw both sides display end-to-end football which thrilled the spectators. Baloch Youth Garden striker Sarmad Jaffar stunned the Kalri Star defence when he opened the scoring after just 3 minutes played. Kalri strike force of Mubashir Baloch, Shaheen Baloch, and star Muhammad Habib failed to test opposing goalkeeper Bilal as the Baloch Youth Garden defence held firm, with the game finishing 1-0 at half time.
In 2nd half, both teams again showed tremendous attacking displays but it wasn’t until the 69th minute when Muhammad Rashid made it 2-0 to Baloch Youth Garden. The goal broke Kalri Star’s resolve and confidence as Baloch Youth Garden held on for a testing 2-0 win at the end as they went through to the semi-finals.
Match referees were Javed Bangash alongside Babar Khan and Farrukh Riaz, while match commissioner was Saleem Arif. KFL organising secretary Riaz Ahmed declared Baloch Youth Garden striker Sarmad Jaffar as the man of the match.
Baloch Youth Garden will now face the winners of the Young Ansari vs Al-Shabaz Korangi quarter-final scheduled for 15 March 2011. This respective semi-final will take place on 21 March with 6 PM kick-off.
