Karachi Grammar win their 5th KUSC title: beat Southshore in final
Shehryar Niazi was chief guest for final. Lyceum beat St. Patrick’s in 3rd/4th position playoff with Taha Rehman’s four goals. KGS star Shazer Razi declared MVP of KUSC 2010-11
The final of the 6th Karachi United Schools Championship 2010-11 saw Karachi Grammar School beat Southshore School a nail biting 2-0 after extra time to win the KUSC title for a record 5th time in front of a packed crowd. After finishing 0-0 in normal time, goals by Hamza Javed (78′) and Taimoor Mukaty (86′) deep in extra time helped KGS win back the KUSC gold. Earlier, Taha Rehman’s 4 goals helped last year’s winners Lyceum School outclass fellow losing semi-finalists St. Patrick’s High School in 3rd/4th place playoff 4-0 to earn bronze medals.
Both the final and 3rd place game was played at Baloch Mujahid Stadium in Ibrahim Hyderi, Karachi. Match referees for final were senior national referee Babar Khan alongside Farrukh Riaz, Riaz Baloch, and Mumtaz Baloch while match commissioner was Abdul Karim (member Central Zone).
Chief Guest for final was Shehryar Khan Niazi (Deputy Head of Mission, British Deputy High Commission) who distributed prizes for the teams and players. Other guests were Karachi United Football Foundation (Directors) Taha Alizai, Imran Ali, Adeel Rizki, Khowaja Ubaid Ilyas, Head Coach Arshad Jamal, Nabeel Yousuf Khan, Master Ghulam Rasool (Secretary, Baloch Mujahid FC), KUSC Organizing Secretary Riaz Ahmed etc.
KGS captain Jibran Fawad lifted the winner’s trophy as well as gold medals awarded to winning side by the chief guest. Master Ghulam Rasool presented runners up trophy and silver medals to Southshore School captain Danial Naqi, while Nabeel Yousaf Khan gave 3rd place trophy bronze medals to Lyceum School captain Muhammad Rizwan.
Karachi Grammar’s Shazer Razi earned tournament’s Most Valuable Player award for his 9 goals. Southshore’s Danial Naqi won the KUSC Peoples Voting Award. Lyceum’s Taha Rehman was top scorer in 6th KUSC with 13 goals including two hat-tricks and he won the KUSC Nike Golden Boot trophy. KGS coach Abid Elahi received Best Coach award.
